The methods of nanotube fabrication and polymerization used for Biological Synthesis and Assembly of Macromolecular Materials were developed jointly by Tirrell's laboratory and that of Evan Evans at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Professor Evans is renowned for his biophysical studies of membranes and macromolecules, and thus brings to CSEM physical skills that are complementary to those of Tirrell's synthetic chemistry group.
