Targeting Diversity - Opportunities for You in Science and Engineering - Open House for High School Students

June 2007 | Oct 2005 | Oct 2004 | Nov 2003 | May 2003 | Mar 2002 | Mar 2001

To promote awareness of materials science and engineering among high school students throughout Southern California, the Center has established an annual Open House program. The first was held March 26-27, 2001, and brought more than 100 high school students from science and technology programs throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area to CSEM. They had a stimulating first-hand exposure to cutting-edge work in science, technology, and mathematics at Caltech and CSEM.

Since then we have hosted a 2002 Open House, and two in 2003 (May and November). The Pasadena Star News reported on the program in 2002.

Since 2002, the program has been jointly hosted by CSEM and the Center for Neuromorphic Systems Engineering. The program is open to all, and students under-represented in the sciences are particularly encouraged to visit.
